Southern Tree Services are certified arborist and specialists in the care of individual trees. We are knowledgeable Arborists and take care about the needs of trees and are trained and equipped to provide proper care.
Hiring an arborist is a decision that should not be taken lightly. Proper tree care is an investment which can lead to substantial returns. Well cared for trees are attractive and can add considerable value to your property. Poorly maintained trees can be a significant liability. Pruning or removing trees, especially large trees, can be dangerous work. Tree work should only be done by those trained and equipped to work safely in trees. Southern Tree Services meet or exceed all the qualifications required to do this.
TREE FELLING & DISMANTLING
We dismantle or fell any size tree, from small garden trees to large park trees. We specialise in the removal of trees that overhang property's, garages, greenhouses, patios, Flower beds, sheds and many more awkward scenarios.
HEDGE TRIMMING & REMOVAL
We manage and maintain any size hedge from small garden hedges to large park or high boundary hedges. There are many different types of hedges (mixed hedges, formal hedges, farm hedges, leylandii hedges etc) and we deal with each one of them accordingly. We have great customer feedback in our management of hedges.
We also lay or coppice hedges and offer advice on hedgerow management.
PESTICIDE APPLICATION
Pesticide application in our field is most commonly used on tree stumps. This is to prevent certain trees from regrowing. Also pesticides can be used against the invasive weeds or plants that intrude trees and gardens.
We are qualified in the use of pesticides and will advice on request.

STUMP GRINDING
A stump grinder is a stand-alone power tool or equipment attachment that removes tree stumps by means of a rotating cutting disk that chips away the wood. The Stump grinder we use is the size of a lawn mower, it accomplish it's task by means of a high-speed disk with specially designed teeth that grind the stump and underground roots into small chips. The machine is small enough to allow access into most gardens.
Most stumps are ground out to about 6 inches deep, but will go deeper if requested.
TPO APPLICATIONS
A Tree Preservation Order (TPO) gives statutory protection to individual trees, groups of trees and woodlands. TPO's can be made by the council when they consider the tree(s) are of amenity value and there may be a risk of work being done to them that would harm that value. Hedges, bushes and shrubs cannot be covered, although individual trees and groups of trees within a hedge may be preserved. We give advice and can help with TPO application's.
TERMINOLOGY
* Crown lifting- removal of lower branches
* crown reducing - reducing overall height and spread of tree.
* crown thin - pruning the whole crown of the tree, (thinning out smaller of the trees branches to often create space to allow more light and reduce shade.
* pollarding (not in usual practice any more) - taking back crown of tree to main trunk, removing all branches.
All work is carried out to a proffesinol standard, to the most modern methods / techniques that are currently avaliable, and in accordance with British standards prunning guides(BS3998).
